Abstract: Standardization and documented sample handling are essential for ensuring high-quality biological material and reliable research results. This “How to…” seminar provides an overview of key biobanking processes, from collection to storage, with focus on pre-analytical factors, consistent sample processing, and relevant regulations. Guidance will also be given on managing biobank cases when participants withdraw consent.

The seminar is relevant for both early-career and experienced researchers, aiming to strengthen awareness and best practices in biobanking.

About the speaker: Ann Cathrine Kroksveen is a bioengineer with a PhD in medical biochemistry from the University of Bergen. Her main research focus has been on how pre-analytical factors affect biological material, particularly cerebrospinal fluid, and research on neurological diseases. Since 2016, she has led Biobank Haukeland, which is part of Haukeland University Hospital’s research infrastructure initiative, aiming to improve the quality of research projects. The biobank facility offers an integrated solution for researchers, including guidance, sample collection, processing, aliquoting, and storage, and works in close collaboration with other departments at the Laboratory Clinic.

The seminar is open to all, and we hope to see you there! Pizza will be served after the seminar.
