The Prognosis Project: Youth with Psychiatric Diagnoses
A record-high number of children and adolescents are receiving a psychiatric diagnosis, and the number appears to be increasing. How do those of us who receive such a diagnosis at a young age fare later in life, and how well do the available treatment services work?
About the Project
Project period: 2025–2029
We know surprisingly little about the ten-year life prognosis for children and adolescents receiving treatment in mental health services. The reason is that very few countries have accessible data that make it possible to carry out such studies. In collaboration with FAFO, through the ongoing Research Council of Norway–funded project NEUROLIFE, we have initiated investigations into this for seven diagnostic groups within mental health care: ADHD, autism, tics, depression, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, and conduct disorders.
The project is funded by Helse Vest – Strategic Research Initiatives – #38971
