Nordic Blood Preparedness Project
The Nordic Blood Preparedness Project aims to develop and pilot a cross-country blood preparedness program that ensures blood supply at all health care levels and access to treatment for bleeding patients in the Northern regions of Norway, Sweden and Finland.

The project is carried out in collaboration between health authorities, hospitals, prehospital services, primary health care services and blood services. The project managing site is the Norwegian Center for blood Preparedness (Nokblod).
The main collaborators are:
- Northern Norway Regional Health Authority (Norway)
- The Lapland Wellbeing Service County (Finland)
- Region Norrbotten (Sweden)
- Finnish Red Cross Blood Service
- Swedish Blood Alliance (SweBA)
Study Outcomes:
- To develop and establish a cross-border interoperable blood preparedness system which includes emergency Whole Blood collection in hospitals and primary health care services in the Northern areas of Norway, Sweden and Finland.
- To ensure a sustainable supply of blood and improved resilience in situations where blood is essential. This includes peace-time management of individual patients with life-threatening bleeding and responses to health emergencies and exceptional events like mass casualty events, explosions, violence, disasters and war.
- To facilitate co-operation and interoperability in the Nordic countries and build a platform for future collaborations which will improve quality of our health services.
