Trainee and internship
Trainee and internship
In order to have an internship at Haukeland sjukehus (HUS) students need to be part of a student exchange program between cooperating universities. Check whether your university has an agreement with the University of Bergen, Western Norway University of Applied Sciences or VID Specialized University and contact the university directly.
HUS does not have the capacity to accept internship/other students than those from cooperating universities.
Note that HUS does not offer internships during holidays (summer, Easter, Christmas).
Additional information about postgraduate medical education:
In Norway, medical graduates gain access to postgraduate medical education through employment in hospitals or primary care institutions. Employment as a postgraduate in medicine at HUS require, among other things, that you are fluent in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language.
You may apply for available positions: Ledige stillingar - Helse Bergen.
Note: HUS does not accept applications from candidates without a Norwegian authorisation from Helsedirektoratet. Autorisasjon og lisens - Helsedirektoratet
Authorization and licence
Health personnel who want to practice their profession in Norway, must first apply for authorization and licence to the Norwegian Directorate of Health (Hdir).
When the decision from Hdir is clear, you can send a request for an internship to HUS.
Send an e-mail to student@helse-bergen.no with:
Complementary application that contains what practice is requested, as well as the scope of the practice
Documentation of Norwegian language skills that correspond to B2 on the Council of Europe's level scale for languages (CEFR) (e.g. the Bergen test)
Decision from the Norwegian Directorate of Health with a response to the application for authorization and any attachments
Due to limited capacity, we cannot guarantee an internship.
