PhD candidate
Robin Gulseth has an academic background in political science. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Comparative Politics from the University of Bergen and a Master of Science in Political Science, specializing in International Relations, Diplomacy, and Conflict Studies, from the University of Copenhagen. Gulseth has professional experience as an analyst in market research and a research consultant in the health sector. He is currently a PhD candidate at Helse Bergen.
The PhD project aims to investigate predictive models of treatment outcomes, such as dropout, adherence, and remission, in internet-delivered psychological interventions using machine learning (ML) methods.
The project consists of three stages. First, we will review and synthesize current evidence and practices of ML prediction within the field. Second, the project aims to determine which digital features and methodological approaches can predict treatment outcomes at an early stage, using existing retrospective data. Third, the project will apply the developed models to prospective naturalistic intervention data for validation, ensuring that predictions remain accurate and fair when applied to unseen data. In the future, such models may contribute to more personalized and effective digital mental health care.
The PhD project is part of the ongoing research project Forhelse SFI, a research-based innovation program supported by the Research Council of Norway and based at Haukeland University Hospital in Bergen, Norway. Main supervisor is Aleksander Heltne.
