Post card from the mountains – project retreat at Haukeliseter
Recently, the PiV project team gathered at Haukeliseter, a scenic mountain lodge on Haukelifjell, located between Stavanger and Bergen. This beautiful setting provided a perfect place for us to step away from our routines, strengthen connections, and explore new collaboration opportunities within the project.

We kicked off with “fast-forward” presentations, where each team member gave a quick update on their work, offering a comprehensive overview of the ongoing efforts and future contributions to the project. Project leaders led longer sessions to share their visions for future research, laying a strong foundation for discussions about closer collaboration between Stavanger and Bergen. We also explored potential funding opportunities, both regionally and internationally.
A key goal for both Helse Stavanger and Helse Bergen is implementing AI models into pathology department workflows. Discussions focused on how this might be achieved, whether through acquiring commercial AI models or implementing in-house developed solutions.
Evenings were spent with social activities, including a quiz on the first night and a cozy bonfire gathering on the second. These moments helped build stronger connections among team members from both cities, particularly benefiting students and newcomers in the project.
Between presentations, discussions, and social events, we enjoyed time in the sauna, indulged in traditional Norwegian food, and took a hike in the mountains. With a fresh layer of snow on the landscape and even a glimpse of the northern lights one evening, the retreat was a refreshing and inspiring experience for all.
