The Bergen team flies to Stavanger: PiV project retreat at Preikestolen

In early April, the Bergen and Stavanger teams met at Preikestolen Basecamp for the PIV project retreat. With a mix of spring weather and views over the Lysefjord, the setting provided a good backdrop for focused discussions. Between April 8th and 10th, we spent three engaging days working together on a shared goal: how to move AI in pathology forward-together.

One of the new employees of PiV looking towards a brighter future from the edge of Preikestolen.

We began with a discussion on the current states and statuses of projects as well as the implementation of new AI tools to help improve the quality of information gathered and classified. This continued with thoughts shared regarding current workflows in pathology and how these new tools may be implemented within these workflows. There was much to talk about regarding what steps would need to be taken and what challenges we may face.

The momentum kept up for the next day with “fast-forward” presentations from both the Bergen and Stavanger teams. Then we discussed the future of workflows in pathology, and what direction to take our projects to help these innovations come to fruition. Validation strategies, technical integration, and the challenges of applying AI meaningfully in clinical pathology practice were at the heart of these conversations, grounding ambitious ideas in real-world experience.

The evenings were spent with social activities, such as card games and social deduction games, further cementing the connection between team members from both Bergen and Stavanger.

Between presentations and discussionswe enjoyed time in the sauna and a morning hike. The hike up to the plateau of preikestolen revealed a great view of the fjords within a snowy setting. This hike was done just before the looming rain in the afternoon.
