Western Norway’s innovation hub (VIS) at PiV

PiV and the Department of Pathology at Haukeland welcomed Mona and Daniel from VIS. They were introduced to “LiveView,” a real‑time dashboard for the histology laboratory — a tool that has already improved workflow insight and staff motivation.

Last month, on the 30th of January, PiV and the department of Pathology at Haukeland had some special visitors: Mona and Daniel from our local technology-transfer organization VIS were visiting us to get an impression of what type of innovations we are developing. As part of the work package “workflow optimization” , we had previously developed a dashboard application called “LiveView”, which displays the activity of the histology laboratory in real-time. This application started as a prototype, developed during a master thesis project, and since then has been turned into productive tool, which already had a positive impact on workers’ motivation as well as providing better insights for planning and staffing. Mona and Daniel were really interested in seeing how this type of “innovation in the public sector” is being implemented into daily routine. After a short tour, learning how a specimen wanders through the lab, and talking to some of the department representatives, Mona and Daniel were really impressed and satisfied with their visit. VIS is currently investigating the innovation and commercialization potential of some of the tools PiV is building (especially those involving “workflow optimization”) and we guess that this wasn’t the last time we are hosting VIS at PiV and the department of pathology at Haukeland. We are hoping to welcome them back again soon!
